As you will see from our programme the Classic Malts Cruise does not figure in our programme as it will not be running in 2010 owing to a clash with he centenary celebration cruise being organised by the Clyde Cruising Club. We anticipate that the Cruise will run again in 2011. The Cruise is one of the highlights of the season. Superbly organised by the World Cruising Club and centred around the whisky distilleries in the Hebrides, this sailing rally involves some 100 boats from all over the world and gives a unique insight into Scotland's most important industry. The rally starts at Oban distillery, proceeds to Talisker on Skye the next week, and then ends with a superb event at Lagavullin on Islay. At each venue tours and tastings and expert nosings are organised, and each distillery aims to provide the best local food, music and of course whisky. Don't worry if whisky is not your tipple. Our generous hosts at each location provide an excellent range of wines, beers and spirits, and everything is included in the cruise fee. Some of the local lads will be sporting traditional dress for these events but you don't need a kilt to swing a lassie and the beginners are especially welcome at the ceilidhs. Most boats are crewed by owners and friends, so Corryvreckan offers an unusal opportunity for charter guests to participate We have five luxury 2 berth guest cabins with full sized bunks, 3 well appointed toilets and showers and a very spacious saloon with a table that seats 12, and full headroom throughout. In between the distillery events we will be cruising our favourite areas as usual, finding spectacular scenery and exciting wildlife, and we may well encounter the occasional boat flying the rally flag on its way to the next party destination. Corryvreckan is a big steel boat specifically designed for charter use in these waters, and in 2008 we had some fantastic sailing in between venues when some of the smaller, lighter boats were forced to stay in port due to weather conditions. We generally offer the cruise as a complete holiday, but we reserve a cabin for those who can only manage a single week with an opportuity to leave or join at Mallaig with transport links back to Oban and points south. If you are thinking of participating in 2011 do book early - we really cannot recommend this event highly enough! |
